Gregorian chant is the proper chant of the Roman liturgy. A two-thousand-year heritage of the Church, it unites prayer and music in a single movement toward God. The Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest places Gregorian chant at the heart of its sacred life.
Codified under the pontificate of Saint Gregory the Great (590-604) who gave it his name, Gregorian chant was restored in the 19th century by the monks of Solesmes. This restoration allowed the Catholic Church to rediscover the purity of this sacred art.
